Independent study allows you to earn academic credit for lab or library research experiences. With faculty guidance, you can propose a research question to explore through laboratory experiments or literature analysis. Examples of past projects can be found here. Students are expected to plan the work, collect and analyze data, and write a comprehensive paper. Each academic credit requires a minimum of 25 hours of work.

Finding a suitable lab can be challenging. Explore the various labs on our departmental website's research page and undergraduate research page. Ensure you meet any prerequisites before contacting the listed person.

For detailed information, watch Dr. David Sherwood's presentation on Independent Study requirements and finding lab positions.
