- In rare circumstances, IAFS may approve a substitute course outside the posted curriculum as an individual exception. An individual exception would be an appropriate Functional Area or Geographic Concentration course for the major, offered at CU Boulder. The request for an individual exception to the IAFS major must be submitted to the student's IAFS advisor no later than the end of the semester when the course is offered.聽
