Colorado鈥檚 innovation ecosystem was represented in full force at the state鈥檚 first-ever Destination Startup showcase on Feb. 1 at the Omni Interlocken Hotel in Broomfield.

A collaboration among Front Range research universities and federal laboratories, Destination Startup seeks to connect Colorado鈥檚 most promising ventures with funding and networking opportunities so they can take the next step toward commercialization.

Fourteen finalists pitched their innovations at the first annual Lab Venture Challenge (LVC), a funding competition run by the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and designed to help commercially-promising technologies accelerate into impactful business ventures.

Often technology transfer is dominated by activities in engineering and the biosciences. 鈥淏ut interestingly, we see it starting to become a campus-wide effort now with innovations coming out of the College of Music, athletics and all these different pockets of the university that are new,鈥� says TTO director Bryn Rees.

With a renewed focus on the CU Boulder campus and new initiatives aimed at streamlining the path from science to commercialization, the Technology Transfer Office is on pace for a record year and poised to provide even greater support for faculty.
