Merritt Turetsky will play a pivotal role at CU Boulder’s Center for National Security Initiatives developing a community of researchers interested in national security-related Arctic research.

Chancellor Philip DiStefano announced that after a national search, he has appointed Benny Shendo Jr. as CU Boulder’s first associate vice chancellor for Native American affairs.

Kathy Schultz, dean of the School of Education, announced she is stepping down from the post to return to the school’s faculty. She will remain as dean of the school through the end of the calendar year.

Shannon Curry, the principal investigator of NASA’s MAVEN mission, will join the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at CU Boulder, where she will also hold a faculty position in the Department of Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences.

Chancellor Philip DiStefano, in his annual State of the Campus address, announced plans to retire as chancellor once a new leader for the CU Boulder campus has been selected. He will remain at CU Boulder, leading in other roles.

Massimo Ruzzene has announced shifts that will help meet the growing demands of an increasingly complex research environment, fill a need at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Sciences, and enhance research and innovation work across CU Boulder.

CIRES has a new position that will strengthen the institute’s commitment to working with Indigenous people in science. The inaugural appointee is James Rattling Leaf, Sr.

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics, CU Boulder’s oldest and highest-budget research institute, has appointed Chris Pankratz as its new director of mission operations and data systems.

Nikki Lovenduski of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences was named interim director of the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research. The appointment became effective on Aug. 28.

Associate Vice Chancellor for Integrity, Safety and Compliance Dan Jones will continue to oversee the Office of Integrity, Safety and Compliance through his retirement date of Jan. 31, 2024. Transition plans coming from Chief Operating Officer Pat O’Rourke are slated for later this fall.
