Local Organizations To Receive More Than 750 Books From "Bagel For A Book" Drive

Editors: A schedule of distribution times for local organizations receiving children's books on Wednesday, March 22, is attached. Photographers are welcome to attend. (Please contact the Kellogg Child Development Center in advance at (303) 938-8233) More than 750 new and used children's books collected in the "Bagel for a Book" drive, sponsored by the CU-Boulder Office of Community Relations and Moe's Broadway Bagel, will find new homes this week at area schools, hospitals, shelters and education centers.

CU-Boulder School Of Journalism Announces Dean Search Finalists

Five finalists have been named for the position of dean of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder, according to Todd Gleeson, associate vice chancellor for faculty affairs and search committee chair. The finalists for the position are Del Brinkman, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation; Sharon Murphy, Bradley University; Alexis Tan, Washington State University; John Pavlik, Columbia University; and John Soloski, University of Iowa.

Rosers Donate $2.25 Million For CU-Boulder ATLAS Building

CU-Boulder Chancellor Richard Byyny announced today that Jim and Becky Roser have donated $2.25 million in a campaign to assist in the construction of CU BoulderÂ’s new ATLAS building. The Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society (ATLAS) is a campus-wide initiative dedicated to preparing all students for lives and careers in the new information age. The Rosers and CUÂ’s ATLAS board are actively seeking a match for their personal gift.

CU's Byron White Center Sponsors "Law And Character" Conference

The Byron White Center at the University of Colorado School of Law will sponsor the seventh annual Ira C. Rothgerber Jr. Conference titled "Law and Character" on Friday and Saturday, April 7-8. During the roundtable format, some of the nationÂ’s most thoughtful jurists, practitioners and scholars will explore the relationship between moral character and the legal system by examining the lives of great lawyers such as Brandeis, Cardozo, Holmes, Hand, Harlan, Marshall and ColoradoÂ’s own Byron White.

Community Meeting On The Williams Village Project Scheduled For April 4

The University of Colorado at Boulder will hold a public meeting on the Williams Village student housing expansion project on April 4 at 7 p.m. at Stearns Central, room 179, in the Williams Village complex. According to Derrick Watson, project coordinator, the purpose of the meeting is to introduce residents to the new developers of the project, American Campus Communities, and to provide an update on the status of the project.

Engineering Dean Named To NIST Board Of Assessment

Ross B. Corotis, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at CU-Boulder, has been appointed to the Board on Assessment charged with reviewing National Institute of Standards and Technology laboratories and programs. He is one of six members at large on the board.

CU-Boulder Program For Elders Explores Philosophical Issues

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Philosophy Elder Program of Colorado will have its first meeting on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. to explore a variety of enduring philosophical questions and problems. CU-Boulder faculty members and graduate student teachers will meet in Boulder at The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave., with interested elders age 55 and above and their partners for a discussion on "What is Philosophy and Why Study It?" led by philosophy Assistant Professor Michael Huemer. PEP-CO Director Elizabeth Slokar also will provide information and history on the program.

CU-Boulder School Of Education Gets $80,000 To Help Teachers Learn To Use Technology

The CU-Boulder School of Education has received $80,000 to help new teachers use technology in their classrooms, especially teachers who will be working in low-income areas. The U.S. Department of Education grant will be coupled with an additional $85,000 provided by the School of Education and the CU-Boulder Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society program.

CU-Boulder Engineering Center Appoints New Co-Director

The University of Colorado at Boulder-based Membrane Applied Science and Technology Center has announced the appointment of mechanical engineering Professor Alan Greenberg as the new co-director of the center. Greenberg joins chemical engineering Professor Richard Noble, MAST's other co-director, in administering the unique cooperative research center. The center is supported by the National Science Foundation and industrial sponsors in addition to the university.
