CU-Boulder Graduate Student Wins Atlantic Monthly Writing Contest

Nate Liederbach, a second year graduate student in newsgathering at the University of Colorado at Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, recently won the Atlantic Monthly's prestigious 2000 Student Writing Competition. Liederbach's entry, "Crown of Wisdom," won first place and a $1,000 prize in the "Non-Fiction: Personal Essay" category.

Three CU-Boulder Women Receive Dorothy Martin Awards

The third annual Dorothy Martin Faculty Awards and Doctoral Student Scholarships for spring 2001 have been awarded to three members of the University of Colorado at Boulder community. The awards honor women who exemplify the ideals of Professor Emeritus Dorothy Martin, who was a faculty member in the CU-Boulder psychology department for 46 years and who was instrumental in establishing the first CU Women's Center in 1964.

Distinguished Professor Charles Wilkinson of the University of Colorado at Boulder will read selections from his latest book, "Messages From Frank's Landing: A Story of Salmon, Treaties and the Indian Way" on April 16. The free event will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Boulder Public Library Auditorium, 11th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, and is open to the public. A book signing and reception will follow. The event is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West, the Native American Rights Fund and the Boulder Public Library Foundation.

"City of Stars" at Fiske Planetarium April 13

Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado at Boulder will tour the Milky Way during "City of Stars," Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. The pre-recorded show explores some of Earth's galactic neighbors - stars, nebulae and clusters. Visitors also will tour distant galaxies beyond the Milky Way. Tickets go on sale at 7 p.m. the night of the show and are $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and children. Fiske Planetarium is located at Regent Drive and Kittredge Loop Drive on the CU-Boulder campus.

Nationally Renowned Religion Scholar To Present Illustrated Lecture At CU-Boulder April 9

Margaret Miles, one of America's leading scholars of religion and the body in late antiquity and medieval Europe, will present an illustrated lecture on "Achieving the Christian Body: Visual Incentives to Imitation of Christ in the 14th-15th Centuries" on Monday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in Eaton Humanities room 150 at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Miles is dean, academic vice president and Dillenberger Professor of Historical Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif.
