MEDIA ADVISORY CU Astronaut-Alum Scott Carpenter Jan. 31 Event to be Rescheduled A talk and book signing event featuring University of Colorado at Boulder astronaut-alumnus Scott Carpenter originally scheduled for Friday, Jan. 31, on campus has been delayed due to a death in the family. Carpenter was scheduled to be on the CU-Boulder campus to talk about his new book, "For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of a Mercury Astronaut."

Human-made noise in America's national parks and public lands is a hotly debated topic, and interested citizens are invited to join a panel of experts and advocates looking for solutions during a symposium at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Feb. 20 and 21.

The demographic and cultural emergence of Mexican Americans in the United States will be addressed by CU-Boulder Assistant Professor John-Michael Rivera as part of the Chancellor's Community Lecture Series on Wednesday, Feb. 5. His talk will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Chautauqua Community House at 900 Baseline Road in Boulder and is free and open to the public.

CEOs and founders of Medtronic, Ball Corp. and other leading companies will discuss lessons learned from their successful business careers with CU-Boulder students at lectures throughout the spring semester.

The University of Colorado at Boulder was awarded a $100,000 grant from NASA for undergraduate aerospace education, research and technology development. NASA hopes the grant will be used to encourage higher education graduates and faculty to become more involved with the space agency.

The Tanzanian director and producer of the first Swahili language film made for worldwide release will appear at the University of Colorado at Boulder Jan. 29 to show the film and answer questions. Professor Martin Mhando will visit CU-Boulder to screen his award-winning feature film, "Maangamizi - The Ancient One," at the International Film Series. The 7 p.m. screening in the auditorium of the Muenzinger Psychology building is free and open to the public.

The challenge of regulating high-technology industries in the fast-paced Internet world will be the focus of discussion at the University of Colorado School of Law symposium titled "Models of Regulation for the New Economy," to be held Feb. 2-3 at the University Memorial Center on the Boulder campus.

University of Colorado at Boulder alum-astronaut Scott Carpenter will be on campus on Friday, Jan. 31, to talk about his new book, "For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of a Mercury Astronaut." The free talk and book signing will be held in the Old Main Chapel at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Carpenter, the second astronaut to orbit the Earth, grew up in Boulder and became one of seven Project Mercury astronauts to take part in America's pioneering space program in the 1960s.

Michael L. Lomax, president of Dillard University in New Orleans, will lecture on "Leadership in the 21st Century," on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Lomax will speak at 4 p.m. in Old Main Chapel. His talk is free and open to the public.
