Application Information

STEP 1: Submit an onlineÌý

  • The Fall 2024 Certificate Application is closed. Because capacity is limited, it is to yourÌýadvantage to apply earlier.
  • Fall 2024Ìýprogram start date: September 4, 2024
    • When completing the application, use the CONTINUE button to move forward rather than the list of links shown on the left of the page, as not all of those links are needed for the Architectural Lighting certificate.
    • You will need to upload an unofficial transcript related to your bachelor’s degree; that can be added later if you do not have that available initially.
    • You will be asked about Colorado residency. The university requires this information in your student profile but it does not affect the tuition for the Architectural Lighting certificate; in-state and out-of-state students pay the same tuition.
    • There is no fee to apply for the Architectural Lighting certificate. Tuition bills will be posted for each of the three courses when you register for each course. See information below about tuition rates and billing schedule.

STEP 2: You will be notified of the admission decision within two weeks after submitting your application.

STEP 3: If admitted, you will receive a separate email on or after April 15, 2024, with your student ID number and instructions for activating university accounts.

STEPÌý4:ÌýRegister and pay tuition via yourÌý. The Buff Portal allows you to view your enrollment period, register, view your bill, and pay tuition.

Minimum Requirements for Earning a Certificate

The Architectural Lighting certificate will be granted to students who have been admitted into the program and who achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for the certificate courses.ÌýAll certificate courses must be completed within two years of beginning the certificate. In order to progress through the program, a minimum grade ofÌýB- must be attained in each course that is a pre-requisite for a subsequent course.ÌýThe Fall and Spring semester courses are offered online, while the capstone course in the summer requires students to come to the CU Boulder campus for one week for hands-on practical experience. Related travel and lodging costs are the responsibility of the student. Continuing Education at the University of Colorado is not able to issue student visas. International students who hold the appropriate status and are able to travel to Boulder are welcome to apply, but we are not able to accept applications from international candidates who require the I-20 form.

Transfer Credits

In order to receive the Architectural Lighting graduate certificate, you must complete only program-designated classes. No transfer credit will be accepted.

Tuition

Tuition for the Fall 2024Ìýthrough Summer 2025 is $750 per credit hour, or $2250 per course.ÌýNo additional student fees are assessed for Architectural Lighting certificate courses.

Billing Schedule and Payment Plans

Bills become available inÌýÌý(Ìýfor authorized payers) by the second Thursday of each month after you register for classes. Payment is due on the 5th of the following month. Postmarks and post-dated checks are not honored. Dates may be subject to change without notice. See theÌýBursar's Office websiteÌýfor important dates.

You may be eligible to pay your tuition in installments over the course of the current semester.ÌýÌýare available for students or their authorized payers. Re-enrollment is required each semester you choose to participate.
