CU Boulder researchers and inventors created a strong crop of 145 breakthrough technologies in 2022, with innovations in climate tech, biotechnology, quantum science, optics and aerospace, to name a few. Read more in Venture Partners at CU Boulder's 2022 Annual Report.

CU Boulder Provost Russell Moore today announced the appointment of Massimo Ruzzene to the position of vice chancellor for research and innovation and dean of the institutes, effective March 20.

A multi-university research team, including engineers and physicists from CU Boulder and NIST, will build technology and tools to improve measurement of important climate factors by observing atoms in outer space. The new Quantum Pathways Institute is led by the University of Texas at Austin.

Pam Ronald, distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and the Genome Center at the University of California, Davis, will deliver this year鈥檚 Rose M. Litman Memorial Lecture in Science on April 27.

鈥淲e're looking for companies that have the most interesting, disruptive technology, that are managed and are founded by the strongest people ... [and] that are targeting products that really fit an unmet need in the market,鈥� said Mark Lupa, co-founder and general partner of Buff Gold Ventures.

鈥淪ince the discovery of DNA in the 1950s, we have amassed an amazing amount of knowledge about how biology works at the molecular level,鈥� said DeDecker, a teaching associate professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at CU Boulder. 鈥淲e are now in a position to use that knowledge to actually build new life鈥攖o engineer organisms to do new things that can address some of the world鈥檚 biggest problems.鈥�

The intermountain west innovation ecosystem came together at the fifth annual Destination Startup庐 showcase on Feb. 15 and 16, hosted by Venture Partners at CU Boulder. In a highly competitive field, 21 university ventures from intermountain west research institutions were selected to present at the showcase.

Beginning this year on April 27, the Research & Innovation Office will host the Rose M. Litman Memorial Lecture in Science, bringing national research leaders to CU Boulder annually. The Litman Lecture celebrates the legacy of an exceptional scientist and educator with a lifelong passion for research, and a firm commitment to keeping rigorous inquiry at the heart of university life.

The Research & Innovation Office has announced several leadership transitions within the campuswide Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative, with Stan Hickory stepping into the role of director of the initiative, a position held by Chris Gustavson since 2019.

The Research & Innovation Office has announced the establishment of a new Workforce Innovation Director position dedicated to helping CU Boulder fulfill local and state needs for next-level talent training, acquisition and retention for research and creative work opportunities.
