A little piece of Colorado is going to the moon. When NASA launches Orion EM-1 in 2020, its first mission to orbit the moon since 1972, experiments from CU Boulder will be aboard.

Researchers at CU Boulder are starting work on a new collaborative grant from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that will improve solar wind modeling.

MAVEN is preparing to take on additional responsibility as a data-relay satellite for NASA鈥檚 Mars 2020 rover, which launches next year.

LASP employs student 鈥渃ommand controllers鈥� to help operate the space missions under its supervision. 鈥淟ASP is the only place in the world that has students work on spacecraft like this,鈥� says Reidar Larsen, a graduate student who started working at LASP as an undergraduate at CU Boulder. 鈥淚t鈥檚 completely unique.鈥�

The University of Colorado was awarded a nearly $57.4 million contract with NASA's Langley Research Center to build an instrument to be installed on the outside of the International Space Station. The technology is meant to improve the accuracy of the measurements scientists take of changes on Earth, including climate change.
