The DEI committee was formed in fall 2020Ìýand it is important that the committee provides transparency in the committee activities. We encourage you to provideÌýfeedbackÌýto the committee on these activities, including areas where you have experienced the impact of these activities and/or areas that the committee should prioritize.

Below is a list of broad DEI committee activities. Each of our subcommittees has engaged in many additional and specific projects. Please visit the subcommitteeÌýpage to learn more about these efforts.

  • Held multiple DEI speaker-related eventsÌý
  • Continued to draft and update budgets to support department DEI-related initiativesÌý
  • Formed the DEI committee and subcommitteesÌý
  • Established the CARE Initiative
  • Established mechanism to incorporate undergraduate and graduate student members
  • Established monetary award recognition for student committee members
  • Developed a Graduate Diversity Statement and posted on departmental webpage
  • In coordination with the Graduate Education Committee, a Graduate Diversity Recruitment Proposal and Budget were developed
  • Coordinated outreach efforts to encourage graduate applicants under-represented in psychology and neuroscience
  • Established mechanism to provide feedback to the DEI committee
  • Discussed departmental response to the latest series of police brutality and racial violence
  • Drafted a departmental statement on fighting systemic racism and posted on departmental home page
  • Revised the departmental mission statement that identifies how our work as instructors, researchers and citizens in the department reflects our commitment to a diverse, equitable and inclusive departmental community
