Derick received his BA in philosophy from Cal Poly Pomona in 2017 and his PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2023. He specializes in moral psychology and ethics. Derick wrote his dissertation on humility under the supervision of Iskra Fileva, and he was awarded the Emerson Dissertation Fellowship by College of Arts and Sciences. His work has appeared in Journal of Moral Philosophy, Journal of Ethics, Episteme, Philosophia, and Philosophical Psychology.

For Fall 2024, Derick is teaching Social & Political Philosophy, and Introduction to African Philosophy in-person, as well as Philosophy and Race, and Ethics and Information Technology online through Continuing Education.
