Ingredients

  • 4 cups of peeled, finely diced tart apples (Granny Smith is preferred)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions

  • Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Use butter to grease bottom and sides of a square pan, 8 x 8 x 2 inches.
  • Arrange apples in pan. Mix brown sugar, flour, oats, butter, and cinnamon in a separate bowl, then pour the mixture over the diced apples.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes or until topping is golden and apples are tender.
  • Serve warm.
  • The apple crisp is delicious on its own but some people like it topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

I adapted this apple crisp recipe from an old Betty Crocker cookbook and now it's Jesse's favorite dessert. He no longer wants birthday cake, he wants Apple Crisp year after year.
