  • Professional Track and Field Athlete

Having run competitively from a young age, Jenny came to the University of Colorado to compete for the Buffalos on the cross country and track teams from 2005-2009. During that time she won four NCAA championships for CU and made her first Olympic Team competing for Team USA in the 3000m steeplechase in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Simpson graduated from CU in 2009 with her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Economics. Immediately following graduation, she signed a professional contract with New Balance to continue her competitive running career. In her second year as a professional, she switched events to focus on the 1500m and won the World Championships that summer. She continued to qualify and compete for Team USA in the 1500m distance at the London Olympics and Rio Olympics, winning a Bronze medal in Rio and two Silver medals at the 2013 and 2017 World Championships in Moscow and London respectively.

She accepted a role as Ambassador and Special Advisor to the New York Road Runners beginning in 2017. Her role with the youth program RisingNYRR has been particularly rewarding. This work has allowed her to share her love for running and movement directly with children in public school classrooms across New York City and at special events in Colorado.

Simpson continues to serve at the University of Colorado. She has been a volunteer assistant coach for the cross country and track team from 2013 to present. She has also served on the Advisory Board for the school of Economics for the past five years. She enjoys the opportunity to meet and guide students through their college experience, sharing the choices and values that lead to her own success on CU’s campus.Â
