With the academic year quickly approaching, Colorado Law is looking forward to welcoming the incoming class of new students. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of our incredible 1Ls through a series of brief profiles! Next up, we have Josue Rodriguez (he/him).ÌýÌý
Born in Las Vegas and raised in Denver, Josue holds a BA in Political Science with a minor in International Studies and Critical Race & Ethnic Studies (CRES) from the University of Denver. Since graduating, he has been practicing development without displacement in Montbello. Josue has worked as a Community Engagement Specialist, Community Development Program Manager, and Director of Children’s Farms in Action while employed at the Montbello Organizing Committee.ÌýÌý

What inspired you to pursue a law degree?ÌýÌý
JR: Growing up, I was influenced by the history of Denver's Chicano Rights Movement. During my undergraduate studies, my courses covered other American social justice movements. The movements that I resonated with most all had trial attorneys that played a crucial role in representing the oppressed. This realization inspired me to pursue a law degree with the intention of becoming a civil rights attorney.Ìý
What are your hobbies outside of work and school?Ìý
JR: I enjoy keeping up with international soccer and famous boxing matches from time to time. However, my main hobby is exploring non-chain food spots in the Denver and Aurora area.Ìý
Why did you choose Colorado Law?Ìý
JR: Colorado Law was my top choice going into the law school application cycle. While working at a non-profit organization, I met various faculty and staff through local public service programs. This engagement, along with the Civil Rights & Racial Justice Certificate, solidified my decision to pursue my legal education here.Ìý
What are you most looking forward to this upcoming academic year?ÌýÌý
JR: I am most excited about learning from faculty, participating in experiential learning opportunities, joining the Muslim Law Student Association, and watching a CU Buffs football game from the student section.Ìý
