With the academic year quickly approaching, Colorado Law is excited to welcome the incoming class of new students. Over the next few weeks, we will be highlighting some of our incredible 1Ls through a series of brief profiles. For our next 1L highlight, meet Machia Mullens (she/her).

Machia grew up on a farm in Liberal, Kansas, and attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she played collegiate basketball.   She currently works as a model with the Wilhelmina Denver agency.

Meet the class of 2026’s Machia Mullens!

What Inspired you to attend law school?

MM: I was initially inspired to attend law school because of my interest in advocacy. Through my many experiences as an advocate through collegiate sports, student involvement opportunities, and serving as a foster care advocate I have witnessed first-hand how important advocacy is in the lives of minorities.

What are your hobbies outside of work and school?

MM: Outside of law school I spend my time enjoying the outdoors, trying new foods, and working as a model.

Why did you choose to attend Colorado Law?

MM: I chose Colorado Law because of the institution's prestigious legal education, the amazing views in Boulder, and the incredible professors, staff members, and legal community I had the privilege of meeting during my visit to Colorado Law.

What are you most looking forward to this upcoming academic year?

MM: I am looking forward to making great connections with my peers, expanding my legal knowledge, and attending CU athletic events.Â
