James Holmes is not ashamed to say that he killed for points. His mission on July 20th, 2012, based on his theory of human capitol, was to kill as many people as he could. Each life equaled a point and increases his value as a human. He called it a 鈥渙ne value unit.鈥� .
鈥淥ne is significant,鈥� he told the psychiatrist. 鈥淎nd you had 12, right? Was it successful?鈥� 鈥淵es. I increased my self-worth and didn鈥檛 have to die. I am at a value of 13. I am worth 13 whereas a normal person is worth 1.鈥�
We are at the halfway mark of watching 22 hours of interviews the two made last summer.
There were only 4 victims鈥� families in the courtroom to hear this today. Most of them have stayed away because they don鈥檛 want to be there.

John Larimer鈥檚 mom was there, but she was doing a crossword puzzle. Larimer was in the Navy and died taking a bullet for his girlfriend. 鈥淚 never met her,鈥� she told me during a break. 鈥淪he was at the wake, but I didn鈥檛 really remember her.鈥� I do. We interviewed Julia Vojtsek. She is beautiful inside and out, and some day soon she will testify so that you can see for yourself.
Another mom started off taking good notes, but as the killer鈥檚 cold-hearted theory unfolded, she dipped her head, then wrote with a pen in one hand and a Kleenex in the other. Finally, her hands sat motionless on her notepad as her chest heaved. She had to leave the room. What was significant about this is that some of the jurors watched her walk out. It鈥檚 the first time I鈥檝e seen them acknowledge the sadness hanging over that side of the courtroom. Usually they try to stare straight ahead.
One woman looked at the defendant with a questioning frown. Another fanned herself even though it鈥檚 quite cold in that room. Others had their hands over their faces. Some just looked concerned. One reporter gasped, said 鈥淚 can鈥檛 listen to this any more,鈥� and left.
Then the psychiatrist took an eyebrow-raising turn
Shrink: How do you see your genitalia?
JH 鈥� Normal to abnormal.Small I guess.
Shrink 鈥� Really small or just do you perceive it to be small?
JH 鈥� Based on national average it鈥檚 small.
The defendant was ashamed to talk about this, but not about his cockamamie theory of assigning numbers to human life.
