Independent Study is an opportunity to earn academic credit for learning outside the formal classroom structure, with individual direction from a faculty member on a topic of mutual interest.Ìý (Independent Study may not be used to substitute for a regular course not being offered in a given term; students should seek Individualized Instruction through Continuing Education for this purpose.)

To apply for an independent study, you must fill out GSLL'sÌýIndependent Study Contract.
Filling out contract does not automatically enroll you in an Independent Study. Once form has been filled out and signed by student and faculty sponsor, submit to GSLL, McKenna 129. If approved, staff member will add the independent study to your schedule. If petition is submitted after the add deadline, you will need to petition your dean for a late add – see department for paperwork to petition your dean.
