Last Friday, Instructor Neal Evers and HMH Architecture + Interiors Principal Architect Harvey Hine, an ENVD alum, were awarded with an AIA Colorado Award of Distinction for their Modern Stair design. The Modern Stair design was created specifically for the Sloan鈥檚 Vista house.

Program in Environmental Design Assistant Professor Jota Samper was recognized for a 2019-20 Faculty Outreach Award for the Medellin Global Seminar: Colombian Displaced Communities: Planning and Urban Design.

ENVD Associate Professor Susannah Drake was featured in a recent New York Times article. Drake, the founder of Brooklyn's DLANDstudio, was highlighted in a fall preview featuring design projects that suggest "that hard barriers between the designed environment and the natural one are softening鈥搈aybe for good." The ENVD 4361 Dissent by Design mini-exhibit "Situating Dissent" will be housed in the environmental design gallery, located in the front entrance of the building, from September 12 to September 19.

Environmental Design Assistant Professor Shawhin Roudbari recently published the essay "Three Degrees of Ethical Engagement: A Manifesto for Architects" on PLATFORM. PLATFORM is an open digital venue for exchanging new ideas about working with, researching, teaching and writing about buildings, spaces and landscapes. Originally posted on platformspace.net.

It is hard to believe we are already in the third week of the semester. Everyone is in a routine and it is exciting to see the initial project reviews happening in studios. I hope all of our new first-year students are beginning to feel that they are a part of the ENVD community.

This summer, a design, research and build studio is redesigning a campus parking lot, near the engineering building, to include habitats that will support native bees while improving their visual and ecological function. 锘�

Environmental Design held it's first spring open house on May 2, 2019, an end-of-the-year celebration exhibiting student work throughout the building. Following the open house, the People's Choice awards were announced at the student social, hosted at the Rayback Collective.

Any parent knows that traditional maps are not designed with kids in mind. But a new child-friendly city map is helping kids learn how to navigate their way around Boulder, thanks to Growing Up Boulder, a CU Boulder program that partners with Boulder Valley School District and the City of Boulder. The map, and the event to celebrate the map, are free to the community thanks to the generous support of the Boulder Library Foundation, Boulder Community Health Foundation, and the Boulder JCC.

Environmental Design Lecturer Danielle Bilot presented her praxis work at the Campus Sustainability Summit, where Travis Torline, president of the CU Bee Club, was also awarded a Campus Sustainability Award. Bilot is the CU Bee Club faculty advisor.
