Dean comes to CU Boulder with more than 18 years of industry experience and 12 years of teaching experience in higher education. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, an MS in Design from Arizona State University, and is currently working on his EdD from CSU at Pueblo where he is focusing on 鈥渟olving wicked societal problems with creative, independent, and critical thought.鈥澛

Before Dean started his teaching career, he worked in a variety of active outdoor companies designing and developing bicycle components and accessories for notable companies such as TREK and Specialized Bicycles, running shoes and apparel for Newton Running, and urban, camping, and cell phone accessories for Nite Ize. Dean鈥檚 teaching career started at Metropolitan State College in Denver where he focused on Industrial Design, continued at Arizona State University where where he shared his design expertise with Engineering, Music Education, as well as Business Entrepreneurship.

His desire to travel and share his knowledge of design and creative thinking led him to Wenzhou University in China and to Honolulu, Hawai鈥檌 where he stepped out of the university environment to teach design and engineering fundamentals at the Punahou School. In his free time, Dean enjoys trail running, playing squash, playing jazz piano and ukulele, and working on his vintage 1981 Porsche 911.聽
