Arapahoe Libraries executive director Nicolle Davies (Jour; MPubAd’03) was named Library Journal’s Librarian of the Year. This is the first time a Colorado librarian has earned this honor. The award recognizes one individual for transforming their library and community and leading the profession toward innovation. Her library district offers access to technology including 3D printers, Go Pro cameras and virtual reality headsets. Nicolle served as deputy director of Arapahoe Libraries before advancing to executive director in 2012.

Producer and writer Drew Goddard (Engl; Film) received his first Academy Award nomination, Best Adapted Screenplay, this year for his work on The Martian. He is also the producer and showrunner for Daredevil, a Netflix original TV series that began its second season this spring.

Steve Alvarez (MJour) wrote the book Selling War: A Critical Look at the Military’s PR Machine, which recounts the failed communication efforts of the U.S. military in Iraq, offering an insider’s view of military public relations. Steve, a Bronze Star recipient, was the public affairs officer in Iraq for General David H. Petraeus from 2004 to 2005, and supported the training of Iraq’s security forces. Selling War was published in March by Potomac Books, an imprint of the University of Nebraska Press.

Registered dietician and certified executive chef Gavin Pritchard (Kines) aims to help individuals, groups, families and teams reach their health goals by promoting science-based nutrition messages centered on boosting confidence in the kitchen. He contributed to the Healthy Gut Cookbook and collaborated with Joseph Feuerstein on the book Dr. Joe’s Man Diet, which focuses on nutrition for middle-aged men. Gavin was inspired by the very first class he took at CU to combine professionally his passions for cooking and nutrition. Gavin lives with his wife and two daughters in Connecticut.

Sean’s practice focuses on commercial real estate transactions, emphasizing acquisition, disposition and financing of commercial proper-ties. He has experience representing lenders and borrowers in connection with real estate financing transactions and regularly serves as counsel to buyers, sellers, owners and hotel operating companies.

Former Buffs football cornerback and nine-year NFL star ٴDzԲٰԻ (MechEngr) joined the Mechanical Engineering Strategic Advisory Board at CU-Boulder. In 2007 he founded Visionary Moments, a San Francisco-based business that makes multimedia display cases. He says his mechanical engineering degree from CU-Boulder was instrumental in helping him design and bring his products to life. He also initiated the ٴDzԲٰԻ Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to steering young people toward a successful future through education and sports.

In December, DZԳ (Jour; Law’06) represented the state of New Jersey in a $2 million settlement with Accutest Laboratories to resolve allegations that it strayed from federal and state requirements for the extraction and testing of certain compounds and submitted false claims to the state and its agencies for payment. This was the largest non-Medicaid-related False Claims Act settlement in New Jersey history.

He is the dean of instruction at Noble’s Rowe-Clark Math and Science Academy in Chicago. He specializes in coaching, developing and supporting 16 English Language Arts and humanities teachers. Alex Becker (IntlAf, Ger) is co-founder of the Denver-based real estate firm Real Estate Consultants of Colorado. The company helps large real estate investment groups and businesses make commercial acquisitions. Alex committed $10,000 to CU-Boulder and its Global Grants Campaign, which helps students afford to study abroad. He also serves on the international affairs advisory board and completed his term on the Alumni Association advisory board in April. As a student Alex studied abroad at the University of Regensburg in Germany, America’s oldest German exchange program available to CU international affairs students.

She is the hiring partner for the firm’s Chicago office, and focuses her practice on consumer technology class actions with an emphasis on cell phone telephony and telephone consumer protection cases. Rajesh Bagchi (PhDBus), associate professor of marketing at Virginia Tech, received the Early Career Award from the Society for Consumer Psychology for his contributions to the field of consumer psychology. Rajesh’s research interests are in pricing, numerosity, goals and loyalty rewards. He has co-authored many journal articles examining how consumers view or deal with numbers in their decision making. His other research has involved how willingness to buy is influenced by color and word sounds. He has also won several research and teaching awards, including the Young Scholar Award from the Marketing Science Institute in 2013.

After graduating, Orla Stiles (Comm) moved to New York to work in fashion, got engaged and moved back to Los Angeles, her hometown. While wedding dress shopping, she felt there wasn’t a stylish option for the “carefree, fashion-forward” bride in L.A. She took a risk and in January officially opened Solstice Bride on Abbot Kinney Blvd. in Venice, Calif. “Imagine a fuss-free space where you can drink champagne with your friends, listen to your favorite tunes and try on effortlessly cool wedding gowns,” said Orla. She has even sold a few gowns to CU alumni.
