Sarah James (PhD 2010, The University of Texas at Austin) is an archaeologist who studies ancient Mediterranean economies and societies through material culture, her sub-field is ceramic studies, particularly during the Hellenistic period (4th-1st centuries BCE) in southern Greece. Her publications include two books, four edited volumes, and numerous articles and book chapters on northeastern Peloponnesian ceramics, Hellenistic trade networks, and the cultural transition from the Greek to Roman period. She continues to be a co-director of the Western Argolid Regional Project (a pedestrian survey) and a lead ceramicist for the Sikyon Archaeological Project (excavations in the agora) in southern Greece. New areas of her research focus on ancient Dalmatia and Adriatic trade networks from the 9th-1st c. BCE. Starting in 2022, she is the director of the Brač Island Project, in collaboration with the University of Split in southern Croatia (Dalmatia).
