Meet Teaching Assistant Professor Trevor Franklin
Trevor Franklin is an assistant teaching professor in the University of Colorado Boulder’s Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering.Ìý
Prior to joining CU, Franklin was a National Science Foundation STEM Education Postdoctoral Research fellow at Cornell UniversityÌýwhere heÌýperformed engineering education research (EER). His research was specifically motivated by the goal of broadening participation in engineering and focused on analyzing the entry point to engineering higher education: the undergraduate admissions process.ÌýFranklin shifted to EER followingÌýthe completion ofÌýhis PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Cornell UniversityÌýin which he studied the interactionsÌýbetween bacteria and engineered polymeric biointerfaces and developed a solvent-free polymer nanoparticle synthesis technique.
Franklin received his BS from Tufts University and has worked in numerousÌýengineer and educatorÌýroles outside of academia, spanning tissue engineering, tech toys, entrepreneurshipÌýand college admissions.ÌýLessons from each of these experiences and research on engineering education, along with a love of teaching and engineering,Ìýguide hisÌýpractices in the classroom.
