Dan FrangopolThe American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) board of directors has established the in honor of Frangopol, a distinguished CU Boulder professor emeritus with a significant career in the university鈥檚 Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering.听

Frangopol, currently a professor at Lehigh University, holds Lehigh鈥檚 inaugural .听

Renowned as an expert in structural reliability, optimization and life-cycle engineering, Frangopol earned the title "Father of Life-Cycle Analysis" from ASCE.听

Keith Molenaar, dean of CU Boulder鈥檚 College of Engineering and Applied Science, praised Frangopol as 鈥渁 prolific researcher鈥 and as 鈥渁 dedicated mentor to me and many of my colleagues.鈥

鈥淭his most deserving award will solidify Dan鈥檚 legacy as a pioneering leader in the field of life-cycle engineering,鈥 he said.听

Frangopol received his diploma in engineering from the Institute of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania, in 1969 and his doctorate of applied sciences from the University of Li猫ge, Belgium, in 1976.听

He joined CU Boulder鈥檚 faculty as an associate professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering in March 1983. He was promoted to full professor in 1988 and became an emeritus professor in 2006.
