she, her, hers

Danita is originally from San Marcos, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.A. in History and then earned a M.Ed. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Texas State University. As a graduate student she interned in the Liberal Arts Advising Center at Texas State and that is when she found her passion for collaborating with students to help them achieve their personal and professional goals. That internship turned into a full-time advising position for English majors. After advising students for 3 years, she chose to open a few businesses, including a coffee shop and a photography studio. She then moved to Colorado in 2021 and has spent the past few years starting a family. She is delighted to be back helping students as an academic advisor for Psychology and Neuroscience majors!

Danita’s personal and professional priorities include making meaningful connections and creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment, where all students feel a sense of belonging, support, and shared success. As an academic advisor, she strives to equip students with the information and resources they need to make the best decision for their unique situation to maximize their college experience. She endeavors to be a person who will challenge, motivate, encourage, and celebrate students, while holding them accountable. It is her goal to engage students in an equitable and empowering academic experience. Danita aspires to support students by being their advocate and providing them with a safe space where they feel cared about and heard.

Outside of work Danita loves spending time outdoors, going to farmers markets, the zoo and hiking with her husband and son. She enjoys growing her houseplant collection (she wants to turn her house into a jungle), cooking, reading, and finding cool places to listen to live music.
