Chamathca was born and raised in Sri Lanka, a small island nation in the Indian Ocean. She received her B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Chamathca moved to the USA in 2008 and received her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and her M.S. degree in Science Education from the University of Iowa. She started her career as a Teaching Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. While at VCU, Chamathca taught General chemistry and Analytical chemistry courses. In addition, she served as a departmental faculty advisor for chemistry majors and the VCU Chapter advisor for the NSCS (National Society for Collegiate Scholars).

Chamathca and her husband recently moved to Colorado and are eagerly exploring the beautiful landscapes of the state. She is excited to join CU Boulder as a biology departmental academic advisor where she can continue helping students, support, and guide them towards their academic and professional endeavors.

In her free time, Chamathca likes to read, and her interests include a variety of genera such as mysteries, biographies & memoirs, historical context, science fiction, and fantasy. She also enjoys traveling and learning about the amazing landscapes, cultures, history, and traditions of the fifty states that make up the USA.
