Ceramics

Maya Buffett-Davis (b. 1997) is an artist from San Francisco, CA. Her latest sculptures look like laptops, desktop computers, and smartphones made out of clay, wood, rubber stamps, and found objects. She repurposes ancient production processes and materials to make sculptures that present as modern technology. The keyboards and screens are made from stamped and carved clay which embodies the oldest writing methods found in Mesopotamian cuneiforms. Through material estrangement and engagement, Buffett-Davis’ art practice reframes our relationship with everyday technological devices. Her solo show Computer Lab Loveseat opened in May 2024 at Soldes Gallery in Los Angeles. She received a BA in Fine Art and Gender Studies from UCLA in 2020 and is now pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at CU Boulder.
