Art History

Courtney Pierce is a PhD student in the School of Art & Art History with a focus on the Arts of the Americas. Her research interests include the history of American fashion, dress, and textiles—including objects associated with Indigenous American dress, Latin America, and the diasporic cultures that constitute the United States—and the cultural meanings embedded within these objects based on place and the experiences of the makers. She most recently worked as the Curatorial Assistant in the Textile Arts and Fashion department at the Denver Art Museum, where she contributed to exhibitions and acquisitions research, as well as object research for the various textiles in the museum’s permanent collection. This experience also fueled her desire to interrogate the museological practices behind exhibitions of fashion and dress, and the ways in which these exhibitions can inspire critical thought and engagement in a visitor. Prior to her time at the museum, she worked for many years in the fashion industry as a merchandiser and buyer, where she cultivated an interest in fashion design and visual culture and its impact on consumers.Ìý

Courtney holds an MA in Art History from the University of Denver, and a BA in Art History from the University of Colorado Denver.Ìý
